The Devil’s Lake Fishing Report for the week of July 9th to July 15th, 2018. Brought to you by Mitchell’s Guide Service. The largest, most experienced, full time Guide Service serving the Devils Lake Basin.
Simply put, it has been another great week of summer fishing here at Devils Lake, North Dakota. Mid – July and the summer peak of walleye fishing is now in full swing. The old saying, “It doesn’t get much better than this” certainty applies to mid-july fishing. Check out our MGS posted weekly customer photos for further proof of that. Family groups, corporate groups, friends fishing with each other you name it have enjoyed MGS guided trips catching walleyes and pike here at Devil’s Lake. Bottom bouncers and spinners are currently dominating the presentations being used. Trolling crankbaits are also effective, but with a few passing thunderstorms at night and the accompanying wind, fouled lines from floating weeds have been a bit of a bother. As we move into the second half of July and the month of August crankbait trolling will get easier to do. Once again, Devils Lake is certainly living up to its reputation. A number of trophy fish have gone home and a number of larger fish have also been released. In addition Devils Lake continues to produce quality catches of fat healthy eater walleyes. Perhaps the best way to sum up the fishery here at Devil’s Lake is while the opportunity for catching a trophy walleye or northern pike always exists, Devils Lakes reputation is for daily producing good quality eater walleyes in the 15 to 21 inch range. With a daily limit of 5 walleye and five northern pike per person and a possession- transportation limit of 10 walleye and 10 northern pike, this is one fishery where you can take much of your catch home for those fish frys with family and friends.
The time we call the summer peak of fishing is now in full swing. From mid-July July through August will feature some of the best open water fishing Devils Lake has to offer. There is no better time than right now to book a trip a guided trip and enjoy walleye fishing here at Devils Lake, North Dakota.
