Devils Lake Fishing Report for the week of July 2nd to July 8th, 2018
The Devil’s Lake Fishing Report for the week of July 2nd to July 8th, 2018. Brought to you by Mitchell’s Guide Service. The largest, most experienced full time Guide Service serving the Devils Lake basin.
Nightly thunderstorms have once again dominated our weather and the fishing this week at Devil’s Lake. The fishing is always very good prior to the storms, but after the storms for a day or two, the rising barometer has made the fishing a bit challenging. All things considered, it has been another great week of fishing. Albeit interrupted at times by the frequent thunder showers. Family groups catching fish and having fun while on vacation are what the month of July is all about. Our posted photos this week are certainly proof of that. I think we would all agree that it is rewarding to see the number of young people getting actively involved in fishing. Once again excellent catches of fat, healthy eater size walleyes in the 15 to 21 inch range have been common. Crankbaits trolled or casted have performed well. The tried and true spinners and bouncers with leeches or crawlers are also taking walleyes in shallow and deeper water. For the most part the larger mature walleyes have been found shallow, although in this vast and diverse fishery better walleye have been caught on deeper structure also. The time we call the summer peak of fishing is now in full swing. July and August will feature some of the best open water fishing Devil’s Lake has to offer. There is no better time than right now to be walleye fishing at Devils Lake, North Dakota.
